Hilton Head Sail and Power Squadron

A unit of United States Power Squadrons ®

Boating is fun, let us show you how!

HHSPS Boating Activities

Hilton Head Sail & Power Squadron offers a wide range of boating activities for our members. There are on-the-water boating programs, including boating cruises and The Magellan Society.

Our community service programs include vessel safety checks and cooperative charting.

Boating Cruises

This year, our Boating Activities will again offer a little bit of something for everyone: short cruises, long cruises, marsh explorations, kayak outings, and leisurely lunches. For most destinations, we will have “shore side” aspects, offering the opportunity for “asphalt cruisers” to meet up with the boaters at the destination. Everyone will be able to join in on the land based fun.

The Magellan Society Circumnavigation Cruises

Beginning in April and culminating in August, Squadron members who are new to the area have the opportunity to learn the local waters, back channels, tides, and currents by taking monthly Magellan Society circumnavigation cruises around local islands.

These cruises offer a variety of opportunities to explore local waterways and put into practice many of the lessons learned in all our great Power Squadron classes.

Vessel Safety Check

A Vessel Safety Check is a courtesy examination of your boat (Vessel) to verify the presence and condition of certain Safety Equipment required by State and Federal regulations. The Vessel Examiner is a trained specialist and is a member or the US Power Squadrons or the US Coast Guard Auxiliary. The examiner will also make recommendations and discuss safety issues that will make you a safer boater.

Cooperative Charting Program

The Cooperative Charting program of the United States Power Squadrons® is conducted in close coordination with the Marine Chart Division, National Ocean Service, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration of the US Department of Commerce. The Program is a major public service of USPS. Under it, our squadron members supply information to the Marine Chart Division of NOS/NOAA leading to corrections to nautical charts, small craft charts, and Coast Pilot publications. We also supply data on depth surveys, range status, geodetic marks, and aeronautical charts.
